just in case anyone is interested in how it works, the yellow top has a "funnel" that goes down a couple inches. The flies go in, down the funnel and into the main part of the trap. Since the funnel narrows to a very small opening, and flies crawl the sides to get out, they can't get back out of the trap. They get some bait on their wings and fall into the water poison and thats it. low tech, but works great.

The trap consists of a yellow plastic housing containing an upside down lattice style cone, entirely enclosed in plastic. Inside the plastic container is also the material that when hydrated gives off the magnetic pungent bouquet that brings flies in droves. The trap is enclosed and self contained until you want to activate it, which is done by taking a razor blade or sharp knife and cutting the plastic around the round top. Tips: Leave the cards in place for a while even after the bugs disappear-to pick up any stragglers or late bloomers.
Once a week, check closely for survivors and open and close the cards to "reactivate" the stickymess.

First off, the horizontal slider you see on the front panel is the on/off switch. The on / off switch controls the mosquito enticing light, the fan, and most importantly, the door that opens / closes the trap. Remember, the concept is that as the mosquito or bugs are flying towards the light, their open wingspan get sucked in by the vacuum created inside the chamber by a reverse (and fairly loud) fan. That chamber can be removed to release the bugs (humane, but there's no reason to be humane to bloodsucking mosquitoes whose contribution to the ecosystem have yet to be discovered and proven).
This product definitely works if used as directed. It must be in place where it is the only main light source.

These traps work great -- lying down. If you try to hang them, they are useless. We had them hanging for days and nothing...and then one fell. It caught 6 flies in 10 minutes that way.
